Does Orkut have a harassment problem?

A new friend, whom I'll let remain anonymous, sent me a disquieting email last night. Here's an excerpt:

As of today I have officially lost patience with Orkut. And I really gave it my best effort! My primary reason is that I do not feel safe here. About a week ago, I was attacked by a particularly nasty troll whose abuse resulted in his expulsion. Now he's back and his (blackhat) hacker pals are trying to 'friend' me. This is just one of many reasons I feel 'unsafe' posting at Orkut. Additionally, the energy here is very teenage (for all the worst reasons) and getting creepier by the day. And I had problems with the TOS from the start.

For safety and security purposes I will leave my (now radically edited) profile and communities up. I would like it to appear that I am still at Orkut so I am not, as they say, spoofed.

If any of you have any thoughts or further advice I welcome it.

And this morning another acquaintance, Ken Camp, says he is leaving Orkut, noting, "Email, blog, other places exist."

I haven't had these problems, but then, I haven't been spending a lot of time with Orkut so far. Sounds as if they've got a serious problem.

Hi JD. I didn't have any problems like our other friend on Orkut. I just found it to be an incredible waste of time. All input and zero output. As YASNs go, the only one I'm really left with is LinkedIn, and it's a few degrees off, being actually focused on business connections and such.

Cheers!
