Will Weblogs make copy editors obsolete?

My blogging neighbor from across I-580, Tom Mangan of Prints the Chaff fame, has a new Q&A worth reading in the Public Journalism Network Weblog, arguing that all journalists need an editor "because nobody ever gets it right on the first try." I don't agree with that (I hope I've gotten something right in three years of blogging without an editor ... come to think of it, I do have an editor: my readers). But I do agree with Tom's overall point, which is that all bloggers would benefit from an additional set of eyes (ie, an editor or two). As Tom says, "Readers want there to be a top -- that is, some kind of institutional authority that is trustworthy." Good stuff.
