Found: The world's screwiest elevator!

Alec Baldwin

I just arrived at the Marriott Marquis Times Square, site of IDG's Syndicate conference. Wifi here is really spotty, unfortunately.

First finding: The Marriott Marquis boasts the world's most fucked-up elevator. Step inside, and if you haven't already selected your floor, you're shit out of luck -- there are no floor buttons inside the elevator. After it whisked me past the fifth floor, I had to step out on the 22nd floor, press the button for the 5th floor, and hope that this one would take me there.

Later: 10 minutes after I posted this, a fellow conference-goer spotted my posting and told me that actor Alec Baldwin (above) just left cursing about the elevator, saying it was the craziest damn thing he'd ever seen.

The company's web site says this about features for people with special needs:

"The Miconic 10 system will attempt to assign an elevator with fewer passengers"

Clearly, they think that all elevator users will enter their individual destinations and actually get on and off as "promised". What if a group of 5 all staying on the same floor ride the elevator and only one enters a destination?
