Today, George Bush was quoted as saying “It’s as if the entire Gulf Coast were obliterated by the worst kind of weapon you can imagine.”. While some people read the statement as nothing more then another stupid misinformed blurb ... [Read More]

JAIL CHERTOFF! Or at least fire him immediately. Washington, stop defending and protecting him. Show us you mean what you say. US Citizens, make a difference. Start a movement to rid the US bureaucracy of this incompetent, arrogant person. Make a difference. Pass it on.

First of all I want to let all those who are affected by hurricane katrina know how much my families hearts go out to them. As a retired national guard soldier I am truly disguisted! Not at the Federal Government, but at the State of Louisana and their emergency operations center. You see, all of you who are laying blame need to shift your finger to them. FEMA was never, ever designed to be anything but a support agency to a state in a emergency. I have personally worked over 15 hurricanes in the state of Florida and the state was the lead agency. If you understand the dynamics the first ones in are the local "First Responders!" after they go in and make their assessment they report to the proper state agency and then the national guard is rolled in. It is quite obvious that the state did not have the proper infrastructure, proper emergency communicaitons equipment and the people to coordinate this. This is where the first blame belongs. Did you know that the state of louisana did not notify FEMA about the convention center until tuesday! They had no idea. Go ahead accuse me of being a Bush supporter (which I am not) but I have done this for to long and know where the blame goes. The states tell FEMA what they need and where they need it, and it obvious they did not do there job!

Today I have torn up my Republican card. I will never belong to a party that willingly, knowingly, passively, idlely watch people die of thirst and starvation. There is no, I repeat, NO reasonable, believeble excuse for not marshalling choppers, news, private, or military and air dropping those dying Americans food and water. Mr. Bush. . .you are a cold hearted murderer! you need to resign in shame. You asked us to stand by you while you sent our sons and daughters, mothers and fathers to there deaths in support of your foolish dream of peace in the middle east. All be it that you wont send your own daughters? I can not stand by you for what you did to your fellow americans in New Orleans. How is it that Bush can call a special meeting of congress to pass a law to save a brain dead women (Terri Shivo) but you cant order one plane, one copter, one anything to save dying black folks??
Food for thought

I would like some answers to these questions.. why were some of the roads closed before the storm hit? A man told CNN in Atlanta that he had tried to leave before the storm but the road was closed. Why didn't the Mayor send school buses to get the sick, elderly, and the poor out of his city? Strange the storm hit Ms straight on yet N.O. has the most damage and most loss of life. Ask Steve Harvey about the couple that told him they saw 2 barges hit the levi. Strange they floated toward the storm and not with the storm. Ask the Mayor why he did not send buses after the people after the city flooded? That kid who stole the school bus had no problem in driving in the flood waters. He saved about 80 people and took them to Houston Tx. Ask the Mayor how he was able to keep from getting stranded on a roof top? Ask the Mayor why he sent thousands into the superdome knowing there was no food, water, lights. air con and then he would not allow them to leave one they were there? Ask him why he sent thousands to the convention center knowing there was no food, water, lights, air con and a means of a bathroom? Ask him why a copter could not have flown over the 235 Exit of I-10 and drop water to the sick and dying? Ask him why he set up a check point and would not allow the people to leave? Strange all the pumps stop working at the same time. There is no excuse for the way things were handled. Then he places the blame on Bush and the Govt for not acting fast. The state of La wanted a new city built and looks like they will get it. I guess we will see condo's and high rises being built now. God knows the truth and if mankind will seek answers to all these questions...they too will find out the truth. Are the American people aware that the onwer of the saints wanted the city of N.O. and the state of La to build him a new dome? Several yrs ago he threaten to move his team if he did not get a new dome. Well, looks like he will finally get it. This hurts and cuts me to the heart to see such loss of life when all this did not have to happen. There is a great injustice here and yes, someone needs to be held accountable for the way things have been handled in the state of La.

1. What about the cost of gas that is already in the ground at the pump?
2. Has anyone thought about that?
3. The chain of supply is right out the window here when the news airs something going on in the world.
The chains of supply are the same for the oil companies as they are for the rest of the business world.
First you have to pump the oil out of the ground then ship to a refinery then refine and store that gas then sell it to a gas station and then ship it to the station where the gas station owner has purchased the gas at a fixed wholesale price. This all takes several months for the gas to get from the ground to the pump.
Yet when something happens in the news the price of gas jumps up in the same day. WHY does it do that. The reason is only GREED. There is no magic that puts the oil that will cost more in a few days or weeks all the way over into the pumps in the ground at the gas stations the same day. The only reason is to make money from the gullible public that just saying well what are you going to do, you have to buy gas to get to work to make some money to buy even more expensive gas.
I guess I seem to be the only one that says HAY WAIT A MINUTE the gas that this station purchased this month does not cost the station owner anymore today than it did when he bought it. The station should not be raising prices until the higher cost gas actually reaches his pumps. That can take several months. Now the gas station owners don’t mind the price increase because they can sell the gas they bought at a much lower price last week and make a lot more off the same gas. I hear people all over saying the same thing “WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO YOU NEED THE GAS”
Now we also here the lame story about Katrina and the refineries being hit and so much oil has been lost, first the oil/gas in the tanks in those refineries is still good it is just being delayed in delivery due to flooding. The tanks are sealed unless a tank was blown apart the gas is still good. Then we have the recovery costs that supposedly the higher gas prices will help pay for. Well I don’t know about you but I don’t trust the oil companies to give much if any to the rebuilding of New Orleans, I don’t trust them any more than the government. Sure they will collect the insurance money and then still rebuild their refineries at you expense of higher gas prices but they have insurance and an already healthy profit margin for that now, so why do we need to pay them more for the gas that has not been lost, it was just delayed in getting used. Then we also have the fact that there are refineries all over the country that can take up the slack of a few being offline for a while. In the they act like that refinery was the only one that supplied all the USA. In fact many states are not even supplied with gas from the gulf ports like Texas, Wyoming and Colorado where most of the gas is pumped out of the ground in those states, refined there and then sold to the local stations. The only gas that is being lost is what is in the ground at the pumps in the gas stations in New Orleans ONLY and no other place. That gas is now flooded with water getting into the ground storage pumps because the tanks are vented in or very close to the ground so water can get in easily, the refineries do not vent at the ground they vent at the top of their tanks and refinery structures.
I would rather give my donations to someone I know will help the recovery efforts and not pocket 90% of the money like the red cross and salvation army does. To prove that you can look on the internet for news stories about the salvation army and the red cross profits that was run by NBC News in the last year.

Does anyone actually believe that there is a plan or could be a plan to evacuate a city the size of New Orleans in two days? The problem with 'the government' in all of this is giving people the idea that they could be taken care of in the event of a catastrophe such as Katrina. It cannot be done. Does anyone think the island of Manhattan (much less the entire city of New York) could be evacuated in less that several weeks in the event of some great emergency, natural or otherwise? What the local, state and federal government should have done was to advise all the citizens that they were at risk of losing their lives if a category 5 hurricane hit. It is hard for me to believe that all of the disaster chiefs from the President on down to the Mayor of N.O. wanted anyone left behind. We should try a little honesty about what can and cannot be done rather than assuming that any government, much less ours, will always be able to take care of us.

From everything I have heard said in the last week about who is to blame, who should have done more, and why didn't they, it seems to me that America needs a lesson in civics.
1st. Let's remember that this country was built by people who did not trust a strong central government. This is why government troops cannot move into another state without the permission of the governor of that particular state. The governor of Louisiana did not allow this until at the earliest Wednesday.
2nd. We have a government of layers. Starting with townships, to cities, to counties, to states, to the federal government, we have a clear command structure when it comes to emergency response. Remember, FEMA doesn't own any equipment or food, they just sub-contract out.
Before we start laying blame, let's examine how things are really supposed to work. Now if you believe that our federal government should be allowed to invade a state, then fine, that's your belief. But at present, that is not the case. Keep these things in mind while pointing fingers, and perhaps we can get back to a little civility in America.

I am ashamed of my Government and especially the President's response to the images of elderly and babies dying in New Orleans. What if one of those ladies was your mother. What if one of those babies was your child. Regardless of Race or how rich or poor a person this is not only "unacceptable", this is criminal. Why did the Commander and Chief not call in the U.S. Marines? What ever happened to accountability. Harry Truman took responsibility, he said "The Buck Stops Here" Bush says "Everyone is playing the game" I don't see any leadership. Awsome power requires awesome responsibity. Fixing all the blame on local government (and they must also be made accountable for their part) is irresponsible because no local government is safe if they are always liable. I have no confidence in a federal government who abandons its people. Does anyone in Federal government have any courage to level with the American people. If politicians can send young people to fight and die in a hell like Fallaja, why do they not have the courage to tell the truth, even if it means losing their job, or power or whatever. Anything less is a betrayal and proves that our leaders are unfit for command. I don't think this country can handle anymore of this. How many times does this administration have to fail. How many more people have to die? 9/11 was a traumatic intel failure 3000 dead. Iraq is a traumatic intel failure 2000 U.S. 20000+ innocent Iraqi dead and a costly failed policy. The Bush legacy is death and destruction.
It is the Civic duty of all Americans to not request but demand that there be an independant commission that can investigate the leadership of all three branches of Federal Government. I believe the Judicial Leadership shows a terrible lack of judgment if they do not express their "dissapointment". We dishoner all those who have suffered or lost their lives if we do not hold our Government accountable. We are all to blame because we all let things get this bad. We don't need fake Patriotism, we need people who place their country ahead of their own selfish desires.
